The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) is thrilled to introduce the 2025 NHEF Scholars Program, a unique initiative aimed at equipping outstanding Nigerian students with essential skills and networking opportunities to thrive as future leaders and professionals. This program seeks to identify exceptional penultimate-year students from our partner universities and provide them with:

  • Exclusive Internship Opportunities: Gain hands-on experience by working with leading organizations across Nigeria.
  • Leadership & Professional Development: Engage in transformative training sessions and workshops designed to enhance your leadership abilities.
  • Mentorship & Networking: Build connections with accomplished professionals and alumni of the NHEF who are making strides in various industries.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the 2025 NHEF Scholars Program, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a penultimate-year student enrolled at one of our partner universities: Ahmadu Bello University, Bayero University, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, University of Nigeria, or University of Port Harcourt.
  • Demonstrate a well-rounded profile that includes academic excellence, active participation in extracurricular activities, and professional pursuits.
  • Show a commitment to community service or philanthropy along with a desire to make a positive impact on society.

Important Dates

Mark your calendars! The key dates for applications are as follows:

  • Application Opens: January 20th, 2025
  • Application Deadline: March 7th, 2025

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit their applications through the NHEF Application Portal (https://portal.thenhef.org/) by no later than 11:59 PM (WAT) on March 7th, 2025.

Steps for Application Submission:

  1. Visit the NHEF application portal: https://portal.thenhef.org/.
  2. Create an account by entering your first name, last name, email address, phone number, and password.
  3. Verify your email address by checking your inbox for a confirmation link; click it or paste its URL into your browser.
  4. Log back into your account using the credentials you created after verification.
  5. Click on “APPLY” from your dashboard to start filling out the application form carefully including bio-data information and essay questions required for submission.
  6. Prepare necessary documents beforehand—this includes a one-page Curriculum Vitae (CV), Cover Letter (both in PDF format), along with your most recent Statement of Result—to facilitate quick uploads during submission.

*Note:* It’s recommended that applicants draft their responses in another document like Word so they can easily copy-paste them into application fields since submissions cannot be saved midway.

Confirmation of Successful Submission

To confirm that you have successfully submitted an application:

  1. Your dashboard will display this message upon successful submission: “Scholars Program – Application Submitted on YY-MM-DD.”
  2. You will receive an email confirming receipt of your application shortly after submission.
  3. After submitting it successfully via dashboard click on the Scholars Program tab—it should no longer be accessible.
