Applications are Now Open for the Digital Global South Fellowship 2025 Admin, September 24, 2025 Application Deadline: October 18, 2025 The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) has opened applications for the Digital Global South Fellowship (DGSF) 2025, a fully virtual, four-week residency designed to strengthen Public History through collaboration, digital innovation, and inclusive participation. This unique program provides an important platform for scholars, practitioners, and artists from the Global South to exchange ideas, challenge colonial legacies, and co-create impactful projects that reshape historical understanding. About the Digital Global South Fellowship Established in 2024, the Digital Global South Fellowship is led by doctoral researchers Natália Gonçalves and Julia Göke, under the guidance of Professor Thomas Cauvin. Built on the principle that dialogue and diversity are essential for advancing historical knowledge, the fellowship operates entirely online to ensure accessibility for participants across different regions. The program specifically supports individuals who are engaged in social, cultural, and academic initiatives that introduce innovative perspectives into the field of Public History. It is particularly relevant to those who wish to address pressing historical narratives, reframe colonial legacies, and create new forms of knowledge through digital tools and collaborative approaches. Focus Areas for 2025 The 2025 edition highlights projects situated at the intersection of digital history, media, cultural heritage, and the legacies of colonialism. Fellows are encouraged to develop projects that contribute to equity, inclusion, and critical reflection within Public History. Key themes include: Media and Colonial Propaganda: Analysis of newspapers, radio, and television to uncover how colonial narratives and stereotypes were created and perpetuated. Colonial Stereotypes in Contemporary Media: Examination of how outdated portrayals continue to influence today’s media coverage and ways to challenge these patterns. Artificial Intelligence and Digital History: Application of AI technologies and digital methodologies to reinterpret colonial archives and propaganda. Cultural Heritage: Exploration of tangible and intangible heritage, including collections, traditions, and cultural practices that continue to shape societies today. Who Can Apply The fellowship is open to early- and mid-career professionals from the Global South working in Public History or related fields. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, proficient in English, and actively engaged in relevant cultural, academic, or community-based projects. While no formal degree or institutional affiliation is required, applicants should demonstrate clear experience in their area of work. Special consideration is given to individuals from underrepresented communities, including Indigenous groups, women, people with disabilities, and members of minority gender identities and sexual orientations. Program Structure and Benefits The residency will run from 3 to 28 November 2025, followed by a concluding session on 1 December 2025. Activities include three weeks of collaborative project work with C²DH members, pre- and post-residency meetings, and participation in a roundtable podcast produced with cultural heritage institutions. Fellows will receive a grant of €1,500 upon successful completion of the program requirements. The fellowship also offers global networking opportunities, mentorship, and the chance to publish and archive final projects for public access.
