ACSPR Research & Innovation Fellowship 2026 – Apply Now

Admin, February 12, 2026February 12, 2026

Application Deadline: February 28, 2026

Applications are now open for the ACSPR Research and Innovation Fellowship 2026 — a six-month transformative program designed to build Africa’s next generation of research and policy leaders. Hosted by the African Centre for Social and Population Research (ACSPR), this fellowship offers young professionals, students, and emerging researchers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in applied research, policy engagement, data analytics, and innovation for sustainable development.

In a continent rapidly shaped by data, technology, and social change, the ability to translate research into actionable solutions has never been more crucial. Yet, many talented Africans lack structured mentorship and access to real-world research platforms. This program directly bridges that gap — equipping fellows with the skills, ethics, and networks to turn knowledge into impact.

Whether you’re passionate about population studies, health systems, digital governance, or climate resilience, the ACSPR Fellowship provides a space to learn, lead, and contribute to Africa’s development priorities — one research project at a time.

 About ACSPR

The African Centre for Social and Population Research (ACSPR) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization committed to advancing understanding of social dynamics and population trends across Africa. By conducting rigorous interdisciplinary research and partnering with governments, civil society, and academia, ACSPR seeks to strengthen evidence-based policymaking and improve outcomes for marginalized communities.

Its core focus areas include:

  • Population and demographic research
  • Education and skills development
  • Health and well-being
  • AI, data, and digital governance
  • Climate, people, and planet
  • Humanitarian response and resilience

Through initiatives like the ACSPR Fellowship, the organization aims to nurture a new cadre of ethical, innovative, and policy-oriented researchers who can bridge the gap between knowledge and action.

 About the Fellowship

The ACSPR Research & Innovation Fellowship 2026 (March–August 2026) is a part-time, six-month learning and research experience tailored for early- to mid-career African researchers, policy enthusiasts, and social innovators. More than a training program, it’s a mentored immersion where fellows work on real ACSPR projects aligned with their interests and ACSPR’s thematic priorities.

Over the course of six months (8–12 hours per week), fellows will strengthen their competencies in:

  • Research design and implementation (qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods)
  • Data management, visualization, and analysis
  • Ethical research practice, safeguarding, and “do no harm” principles
  • Policy communication and evidence translation
  • Responsible use of data and digital tools, including AI for development

This unique structure ensures that fellows graduate with practical experience, policy literacy, and a deeper understanding of how research shapes real-world change.

 Why This Fellowship Matters

Across Africa, the demand for evidence-based policy and data-driven decision-making is growing. However, gaps remain in applied research capacity, mentorship, and opportunities to transform findings into tangible action.

The ACSPR Fellowship directly responds to these challenges. By focusing on ethical, inclusive, and locally grounded research leadership, it contributes to continental frameworks such as the African Union’s Agenda 2063, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the UN Pact for the Future.

Fellows are not just observers — they are contributors to Africa’s transformation agenda.

 Fellowship Tracks

Applicants can choose one preferred track (and an optional second choice):

  1. Research & Policy Track – Focused on applied research and policy engagement.
Outputs: policy briefs, reports, stakeholder engagement materials.
  2. Data & AI Track – For those passionate about data analysis, visualization, and responsible AI for development.
Outputs: dashboards, cleaned datasets, analytics reports.
  3. Communications & Knowledge Translation Track – For writers and storytellers who turn research into accessible public content.
    Outputs: blogs, infographics, dissemination plans.
  4. Operations & Partnerships Track – Focused on coordination, stakeholder mapping, and proposal development.
Outputs: stakeholder maps, coordination trackers, partnership proposals.

All fellows also join core training sessions on research ethics, African research contexts, and evidence translation — ensuring a holistic, cross-disciplinary foundation.

 What Fellows Will Gain

Successful fellows will receive:

  • Hands-on training in applied research and innovation
  • Personalized mentorship from ACSPR experts
  • Involvement in live research and policy projects
  • Access to ACSPR learning resources and templates
