This prestigious initiative supports outstanding female researchers in Sub-Saharan Africa, offering financial assistance and leadership training to help them advance their scientific careers. About the Program Since 2000, the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science program has been empowering women in research by providing funding and professional development opportunities. The 2025 edition will recognize 25 doctoral and 5 post-doctoral students, selected by a panel of leading African scientists. This initiative aims to close gender gaps in STEM by equipping women with the resources and skills needed to excel in their fields. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet the following requirements: Academic Background: Ph.D. student (at least in the 2nd year) or postdoctoral researcher. Specialization in one of the following fields: Life and Environmental Sciences Physical Sciences Engineering Mathematics Computer and Information Sciences Regional Requirements: Must be from one of the 48 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and conduct research or study in any of these nations. If from South Africa, applicants must be studying or working in one of the 48 other Sub-Saharan African countries. South African researchers conducting studies within South Africa are not eligible. Program Benefits Selected participants receive financial support to advance their research: Doctoral students: €10,000 Post-doctoral researchers: €15,000 Beyond funding, participants gain access to an exclusive leadership training program, designed to enhance their professional skills, improve career prospects, and break barriers in the scientific world. The program concludes with a grand award ceremony in a major African capital, where winners will be recognized in the presence of policymakers, UNESCO officials, leading scientists, academics, and gender equality advocates.
